About Siegfried Modola - photojournalist
Siegfried is a freelance documentary photojournalist based in Nairobi.
His work focuses on the search and understanding of cultural and social issues and the attempt to raise awareness and ultimately action on humanitarian crisis in east Africa and beyond.
Having lived in Kenya all of his life, Siegfried has a unique first hand understanding of the region, the challenges it faces, its hopes for the future and a uncompromised contemporary approach to the reality on the ground.
He graduated with a BA in journalism in 2004 in Ireland and an MA in photojournalism and documentary photography from the London College of Communication in 2009.
He has taken pictures for Getty Images, AP, AFP, EPA, Reuters, BBC, UNICEF, UNHCR, UN-Habitat, UNAIDS, WFP, MSF, ActionAid, CARE International, the European Commission and the UK based charity Comic Relief. He worked as photo editor for Agence France Presse in Paris and for the United Nations (IRIN) before that.
His photographs have also appeared in the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, la Repubblica D, De Volkskrant and the Daily Nation.
He has exhibited in London, Geneva, New Delhi and Nairobi.
